Shea trees are also known as “butter trees”. They are mainly found in the grassy savannahs of Africa. Women have extracted shea butter or oil for thousands of years for food and for its cosmetic benefits.
Shea oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E and F and known for its nourishing and softening properties. It makes hair supple and shiny.

“A Positive Sourcing” program developed with Pur Projet for selecting more responsible supply chains.

Our supplier buys shea oil from Groupement Féminin Songtaaba (G.F.S), women’s cooperative in Burkina Faso that aims to empower women through literacy training and income-generating activities. The cooperative comprises of 110 women and focuses on shea butter production. They harvest and crack the seeds, then cook, crush and shape shea balls to maximize their revenue.
